Phyllis J. Fread Enjoyed a 44-Year Career in School Counseling

A proponent of counseling in the school system, Phyllis J. Fread enjoyed a fruitful 44-year career. Recognized for her expertise in counseling, she devoted most of her time to helping students. She was credited for organizing the American Field Service student exchange program at her school and functioned as team leader of the selection committee of the Ford Family Foundation Scholarship Program from 1991 to 2003. Also a teacher, Ms. Fread taught French at Roseburg Senior High School and Umpqua Community College and was Dean of Students at the high school from 1965 to 1980. She attributes her success and longevity to her enthusiasm and passion for her profession.
Ms. Fread earned her Master's Degree in Counseling and Guidance in 1956 from the University of Oregon and her Bachelor's Degree in French and Spanish in 1948 from Cornell College. She is affiliated with the American Association of University Women and Zonta International. In 2008, she was honored by Cambridge Who's Who with induction as a VIP member.
