Elaine P. Draeger celebrates 28 years as president and chief executive officer of Sheltering Arms Early Education and Family Centers

With 28 years of experience as president and chief executive officer of Sheltering Arms Early Education and Family Centers, Elaine P. Draeger is responsible for answering to the 33 members of the board of directors, overseeing the daily operations of 17 centers, handling funding streams, ensuring that reporting guidelines and timelines are met, attending regional and national meetings, training, mentoring and coaching others, working with a budget of $25.5 million, exploring ways to benchmark performance, writing grants, and making decisions regarding programs and curriculum. She became involved in her profession because of her interest in education and inspiration from her parents, who were educators. She attributes her success to her passion for her profession, persistence and surrounding herself with supportive individuals.
Ms. Draeger is a member of the Georgia Association for the Education of Young Children, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and Kiwanis International.
