Dr. Jimmy Sio, bariatric specialist and professional consultant, discusses the meaning of success — and how to achieve it

"The important thing in life is not where you started...not what you accomplished," he noted during his recent interview with Cambridge Publishing. "It's the journey. Before you get from [point] A to [point] B, step one to step two...you've developed as a person. You've become different, in terms of character. So persistency, at the end, will make you successful." This philosophy can be applied to a myriad of experiences, but the goals Dr. Sio specifically refers to in this instance are small-business development and individual, professional growth. Dr. Sio has led a varied career, rising to prominence in both the medical field and consultancy. A bariatric specialist, he holds an MD from Emory University and a Ph.D. from The University of Texas.
