BANKSTOWN, NSW, AUSTRALIA, November 28, 2010 /Stanford Who's Who/ -- Philip B. Petrie has been accepted among the prestigious ranks of Stanford Who's Who as a result of his spectacular effort in the Social Services Industry. As Executive Director of Allevia for the past 6 years, Philip has routinely exhibited the passion, vision and dedication necessary to be considered among the best.
Established in 1978, Allevia is a charitable, not-for-profit, non-government, incorporated association which provides the highest quality services to people with a disability, children, and young people in the community today. Their exceptional experience combined with their commitment to excellence has earned them the reputation as the best community service organization of their type in the Metro-South Region of Sydney, New South Wales.
The organization offers a variety of programs and services. They have adult accommodation services which is a group home accommodation for people with disabilities from age 18 and up. The Aspire Program is an out-of-home care support service for children and youth in crisis. Bankstown Occasional Care is for children from infancy to age 5. Bankslink covers children from infancy to 5 years of age with special needs. The Hoskins Day Program is for adults with a disability. Allevia also offers Arablink, Vietlink and Roselink programs as well as youth group and peer support.
Philip is responsible for managing all major aspects of the organization and overseeing the daily operations. He possesses particular expertise in mental health, mentorship, lecturing and advocating for human rights. Mr. Petrie is also an accredited Life Passion Map Practitioner, guiding people through a process to discover what drives them from a conscious and sub-conscious level, based on integrate intelligence. The process forms a part of the way he undertakes the coaching and mentoring of a broad range of people in professional life.
Philip began his career as a Nurse, training in a large residential facility for people with disabilities in New South Wales, Australia. Given the extensive changes in the disability support sector worldwide and in NSW, Philip has worked in a number of government and non-government agencies as an integral part of the teams charged with the responsibility of evolving services into more community integrated models. His private consultancy work saw him develop a reputation as an advocate for change, and his personalized approach to his clients has had a major positive impact on the lifestyles of many disadvantaged members of the community and the quality of the support services they access.
Bringing his vast knowledge of community service practice, Philip has built a consultancy service within Allevia, called Dare to Aspire which provides a range of support services to the community including clinical (psychological) services, behaviour intervention and support, professional development training for workers, healthcare planning services, and organizational development support. Dare to Aspire has developed a positive reputation for its ability to get great results, personalizing its services and thinking outside the box.
As part of a team of three, Philip has contributed to the Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (Edler, R. 2009) textbook used as a prescribed text in Universities across Australia and New Zealand. This contribution has been the chapter on intellectual disability and understanding the complex nature of dual disability. The text is currently undergoing preparation for its third edition.
With an open mind, open heart and open will, the future for Philip is a blank canvas which holds infinite possibilities. Having spent his entire career in the service of others, his major life goal is simply to do no harm and ensure that he leaves the world a better place. Within Allevia, Philip sees many possibilities for serving the community and continues to try new things, all with a view to see people happy, competent, focused, and confident in their place in society.
During his educational career, Mr. Petrie earned a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a Master's degree in Educational Studies. He is a member of the Castan Centre for Human Rights and the Australian Human Resources Institute.
