Bishop Gloria Stewart believes that a church should better the community in which it operates

MOBILE, AL, June 9, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ --Bishop Gloria W. Stewart, Apostle, Pastor and Founder of Obeying His Commandments Holiness Church, Inc., has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in spiritual services.

The first female bishop in the state of Alabama, Dr. Stewart has been integral to the expansion of Obeying His Commandments Holiness Church from a residential living room to a church with more than 100 parishioners. She has devoted the last 31 years to ministry, specializing in preaching the Gospel and performing religious services. Determined that a church should better the community in which it operates, Dr. Stewart also spearheads counseling efforts for victims of crime, abused women, and couples before and after marriage.

Prior to attaining her current position, Dr. Stewart served Obeying His Commandments Holiness Church as a Sunday school superintendent and bookkeeper. She also worked as a senior insurance agent for Mutual Savings Life Insurance Company and as a vice chairman of Head Start. She considers becoming Alabama's first ordained bishop to be among the highlights of her career — the feat inspired the State of Alabama House of Representatives and the Alabama State Senate to declare the 14th of November as Chief Apostle Bishop Gloria W. Stewart Day. Dr. Stewart attributes her success to the support she receives from her family.

Dr. Stewart holds a Ph.D. in counseling, with a concentration in theological studies, a master's degree in theology, and a Bachelor of Arts in counseling. She serves as a spiritual adviser to FISTH and in 2006 was the recipient of a Spirit of Excellence Award. As she moves forward, Dr. Stewart has increased her involvement in community activities and established the Fountain of Youth ministry in 2009 involving training and allowing young people to exercise their God given gifts in ministry and The Rugged Cross, Inc., a community service organization in December of 2010.
